Nintendo’s handheld is accumulating a healthy collection of Switch 2-only titles. Meanwhile, the number of new PS5 exclusive games remains meager. Exclusives drive the popularity of the Switch 2, while PlayStation now markets more of its titles on multiple platforms.

First-party Nintendo games have been central to the appeal of the gaming giant’s consoles. That has continued with its most recent handheld. Still, it may surprise gamers to see how the list of exclusive Switch 2 games stacks up to competitors like the PS5.

Despite the PS5 being on the market since 2020, Nintendo’s console may already have more unique titles. Rock solid on social media shared a comparison that uses Wikipedia as its source. There are caveats, with some remasters of titles on other platforms considered Switch 2 exclusive games. Nevertheless, Nintendo’s system leads the way 22 to 18 in this breakdown.

Slowed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the current PlayStation console initially struggled with supply. The selection of launch titles also suffered, with first-party attractions like Horizon: Forbidden West delayed. While the pace of releases accelerated somewhat, critics note how the PS4 had more system-specific games to allure buyers.

The Switch 2 also didn’t overwhelm fans with games during its June release. Mario Kart World was the highlight, with upgraded versions of Zelda favorites also available. Still, Nintendo-published titles are now surfacing at a steadier rate. After the debut of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, gamers can expect Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond in the coming months.

The PS5 is thriving despite lack of exclusives

Nintendo and PlayStation have different strategies to attract console shoppers. Instead of only developing PS5 exclusive games, Sony is just as focused on multi-platform support. It had already begun porting titles to the PC years ago, albeit often after a delay. Even though Xbox sales have dwindled after price increases, Sony is also invested in the former rival’s platform.

One change with the latest Nintendo handheld is that it embraces more AAA third-party projects. Yet, with Cyberpunk 2077 as an exception, Switch 2 exclusive games have dominated sales. With some developers complaining about the lack of dev kits, that may not change in the short term.
