Retroid has had a rather busy year after introducing the Pocket Classic and Pocket Flip 2, which it now sells in Dimensity 1100 and Snapdragon 865-powered editions. On top of that, the company was forced to refresh the Pocket Mini with the Pocket Mini V2 (curr. $229 on Amazon) that resolved display issues with the original model.
Just recently, the company permanently dropped the prices of its current gaming handhelds, including last year's Pocket 5. As we discussed earlier this month, these reductions generally corresponded with a $20 discount on the previous MSRPs of the Pocket Flip 2 and Pocket Mini V2, too. Now, Retroid has begun teasing something new across its social media channels.
For the time being, Retroid only suggests that it will present something futuristic later this month. Specifically, the company has confirmed it will announce more details on October 27. In the meantime, Qualcomm may have already hinted that Retroid's next gaming handheld will use the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, a chipset that debuted in March alongside two other gaming-focused chipsets.
Equipped with an 8-core CPU, the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 features 1 Prime core, 4 Performance cores and 3 Efficiency cores. Additionally, the chipset leverages an Adreno A22 GPU with Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 and Snapdragon Game Super Resolution support. Also, the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 masters Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity while supporting 1440p and 144 Hz displays. No Snapdragon G2 Gen 2-powered gaming handhelds have emerged yet, though.
