Anbernic has shared new information about the RG DS, its first dual-screen gaming handheld. To recap, the company officially acknowledged the device's existence a week ago. However, rumours about the RG DS surfaced around the time that Anbernic was preparing to release the RG476H (curr. $189.99 on Amazon).
A week on from its first appearance, Anbernic has now shown the RG DS playing a handful of Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS games like Shovel Knight and Pokémon Black Version 2. Additionally, the company has confirmed that the RG DS supports stylus inputs on its bottom display, just like the Nintendo DS series before it. As an example of this, Anbernic has highlighted RG DS compatibility with stylus-first games like Kirby: Canvas Curse, Nintendogs and even Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword that is played in a vertical orientation.
For the time being, Anbernic is leaving fans in the dark about what chipset underpins the RG DS. Given the handheld's sub-$100 launch pricing, we doubt Anbernic will turn to the Unisoc T820 or the Dimensity 8300 that have powered its recent Android handhelds. Based on recent rumours, Anbernic will switch to the Unisoc T620, a more powerful alternative to the Unisoc T618 that the company uses inside the RG405M and RG405V. A release date remains unknown for now, though.
