The Nintendo Switch 2 has been breaking sales records left and right. The console managed to sell around 2.4 million units in the U.S. in just three months, while the total global sales are reported to be more than 6 million units as of early August 2025. Nintendo previously planned to sell around 15 million Switch 2 units by March 2026. It now appears that the company is revising this target upwards.
Bloomberg reports that Nintendo is planning to produce a staggering 25 million Switch 2 consoles by March 2026. This is an increase of around 67% compared to the 15 million Switch 2 sales target that Nintendo had set for itself. However, the company has reportedly now revised this target to around 20 million units. Several users on Reddit believe that this proposed production increase could be the result of Nintendo wanting to have considerable Switch 2 supply for the release of the next mainline Pokémon game in Fall 2026.
Whatever the case ends up being, one thing is mighty clear: The Nintendo Switch 2 is a massive success for the Japanese firm. The handheld console is Nintendo’s best console launch ever, selling double the number of the original Switch. With the reported production boost and increased internal sales targets, Switch 2 sales are unlikely to see a significant slowdown anytime soon.
Thankfully, despite the earlier stock crunches due to exceptional demand, you can currently easily buy the Switch 2 in the U.S. For instance, Amazon has the Switch 2 Mario Kart bundle on sale for $499. Nintendo also still offers the original Switch, the Switch Lite, and the Switch OLED, which could also be good options for folks who are short on cash.
