Mangmi has finally released its first gaming handheld after months of teasers. For context, the Air X arrives in the wake of Anbernic RG476H, which launched less than a month ago with a 4.7-inch display and a Unisoc T820 chipset (curr. $189.99 on Amazon). Meanwhile, Ayaneo has delayed the release of the Pocket Air Mini until after the arrival of the Air X.
The largest of the three, the Air X features a 5.5-inch IPS display that resolves at 1,920 x 1,080 pixels with 450 nits peak brightness and a 16:9 aspect ratio. Although wider than the 4:3 aspect ratio used by many of the systems it seeks to emulate, one could always enable widescreen hacks when playing Gamecube, PlayStation Portable (PSP) or PlayStation 2 (PS2) ROMs, among others.
According to Mangmi, the Snapdragon 662 and 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM are powerful enough to emulate PSP games at a 2x integer scale while running Android 14. Moreover, tha Air X leverages Hall effect joysticks and stacked triggers. On top of that the Air X comes with 64 GB of eMMC 5.1 flash storage aided by a microSD card slot, a small active cooling solution and a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 15 W wired charging.
For reference, all this hardware is packaged within a housing that measures roughly 203 x 87 x 17 mm and weighs 286 g. The Mangmi Air X is available to order from today for $79.99 in three colours with a case included, or $74.99 when applying a $5 subscriber discount. Please note that the device's price will rise to $89.99 after October 21.
