8BitDo celebrates NES's 40th anniversary with limited edition Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller, Retro Keyboard, Retro Cube 2 Speaker and more

8BitDo already has more than a handful of products that pay homage to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). However, for the 40th anniversary of the console, it has announced a special edition of one of its existing products as well as special editions of two new products.
Collectively called the NES40 Collection, they include the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth - NES 40th Limited Edition, Retro 68 Keyboard - NES 40th Limited Edition, and the Retro Cube 2 Speaker - N Edition.
8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth - NES 40th Limited Edition
The 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth - NES 40th Limited Edition is based on the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth which is available in Yellow, White, and Black. 8BitDo says there are only 1,985 units of the special edition controller which is compatible with Windows and the Nintendo Switch/Switch 2. It is also compatible with the NES as 8BitDo ships this special edition with a NES Retro Receiver.
The 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth - NES 40th Limited Editionn has a black front plate with notable dates in 8BitDo's and Nintendo's history. It also has bright red ABXY buttons, grey bumpers and trigger buttons, and a grey back. The charging dock is also grey and has the text “NES40th Anniversary Edition” written in a red font.
In addition to the transparent NES Retro Receiver, 8BitDo also includes four custom joystick caps, and an 8BitBot keychain. The 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth - NES 40th Limited Edition is available to pre-order from the 8BitDo eShop for $79.99. Considering the free gifts and the included receiver, that's a fair price in comparison to the standard version which sells for $69.99 on Amazon.
8BitDo Retro 68 Keyboard - NES 40th Limited Edition
8BitDo Retro 68 Keyboard - NES 40th Limited Edition is not just a special edition keyboard to celebrate the NES's 40th anniversary, it is also 8BitDo's first 68-key keyboard. Its other keyboards, including the 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard - Mecha Break Edition (available on Amazon for $89.99) are either 87-key or 108-key keyboards.
The Retro 68 Keyboard - NES 40th Limited Edition has Kailh switches, an aluminum plate, aluminum alloy keycaps, hot-swappable PCB, and N-key rollover. The all-metal keyboard with RGB backlight has a custom gasket mount with six precision engineered dampeners for a soft and stable typing experience.
It also comes with wireless Super Buttons, unlike the other keyboards which have wired super buttons. 8BitDo says these Super Buttons are exclusively for the Retro 68 Keyboard.
The Retro 68 Keyboard is compatible with Windows and Android devices, and supports 2.4GHz wireless connection, Bluetooth, and wired USB. It has a 6,500mAh battery capacity that can provide up to 300 hours of use on a single charge. A full charge takes about 9 hours.
Available to pre-order from the 8BitDo eShop, the Retro 68 Keyboard - NES 40th Limited Edition has a price tag of $499.99, making it 8BitDo's most expensive keyboard. It will begin to ship in January 2026.
Retro Cube 2 Speaker - N Edition
The Retro Cube Speaker was released back in 2016, and it has taken 9 years for 8BitDo to release a successor. Called the Retro Cube 2 Speaker - N Edition, it retains some of the features of the original, such as D-Pad controls. However, it now supports not just Bluetooth but also 2.4G wireless and wired USB-C connections. Unfortunately, the 3.5mm AUX port is gone.
The Retro Cube 2 Speaker also comes with a wireless charging dock. The dock has a compartment for holding the 2.4G USB-C adapter, and it will take between 3 to 5 hours to fully charge the speaker's 2,000mAh battery. Users will get up to 30 hours of use from a full charge, a significant upgrade from the 8 hours of its predecessor.
The speaker also has a microphone, so users can make calls with it. It also has a gaming mode, and like the previous model, you can pair two speakers together for stereo sound.
The 8BitDo Retro Cube 2 Speaker is available to pre-order for $49.99, and it will begin shipping on December 12, 2025.
