There seems to be no escaping the trend of gaming keyboards with built-in screens. Recent releases like the Asus ROG Azoth 96 HE, Chilkey ND104, and Corsair Vanguard 96 all feature some kind of small display. But while most keyboards use the display to show system information or quick settings, Qwertykeys may have found the most creative use yet.
The custom keyboard maker has begun teasing its upcoming QK65 MK3 keyboard in a series of social media posts. Like the QK65 V2 and V2 Classic, it features a 65% layout but now sports a retro-inspired design with a color screen that can be used to play a set of built-in mini games.
The QK65 MK3 features a retro gray and matte lilac aesthetic reminiscent of classic consoles like the Super NES and Game Boy. Its color display sits on the right edge of the keyboard, with two buttons below it for controlling the built-in games, alongside a small speaker. The screen can also show system status and other information, while two old-school-style knobs on the top edge let users switch between connectivity modes and operating systems.
Moreover, the keeb will support both wired and wireless modes. However, like most Qwertykeys keyboards, it will likely be sold as a barebones kit, meaning users will need to bring their own switches and keycaps. Qwertykeys has not revealed the materials, detailed specifications, or pricing, but the keyboard is expected to launch in five color options to start.
