8BitDo has partnered with Mecha Break, for a special edition of the 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard. The new keyboard which is officially called the 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard Mecha Break: Panther Edition is now available to pre-order.
The 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard has received multiple iterations since it was first released in 2023. In addition to the original, the mechanical keyboard has a Commodore 64 Edition, Saturn Edition, NES Edition, Famicom Edition, M Edition, and an Xbox Edition.
The 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard Mecha Break has Kailh Glaze Jellyfish Pro linear switches unlike the Xbox Edition which has Kailh Jellyfish X switches. Like all of 8BitDo's mechanical keyboards, this too has an aluminum plate with a top-mount style design, hot-swappable PCB, and support for n-Key rollover. The keycaps have a matte UV coating and there's RGB backlight with 8 lighting modes, a feature also available on the Xbox edition.
The new keyboard is compatible with both Windows and Android devices and can be configured using the 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2 program. Users can choose between Bluetooth, 2.4GHz, and wired USB modes for connectivity. Like the Xbox Edition, this also has a larger 4,000mAh battery capacity that should provide up to 280 hours of use in 2.4GHz wireless mode and last up to 300 hours on a single charge in Bluetooth mode.
The 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard Mecha Break: Panther Edition is available to pre-order now on Amazon for $119.99 ahead of its release on July 16. It comes with 8BitDo Dual Super Buttons, stickers, keycap puller, an adapter, and USB cable. 8BitDo has also added extra keycaps but instead of 7 extra keycaps as is the case with the Saturn Edition, the Mecha Break edition gets 21 extra PBT keycaps.
