Ayaneo has now launched the Pocket Air Mini on Indiegogo after previously claiming that the device would go live on the crowdfunding platform earlier this week. Arriving in the wake of the Anbernic RG476H (curr. $189.99 on Amazon) and the Mangmi Air X, the Pocket Air Mini adopts a 4.2-inch IPS display within a 269 g and 18.7 mm thick housing.
Also measuring 82.5 mm across and 165.9 mm in height, the Pocket Air Mini features an active cooling solution to keep its MediaTek Helio G90T SoC and integrated Mali-G76 MP4 GPU from overheating while gaming. Moreover, Ayaneo includes Hall effect joysticks and triggers, but no gyroscope for handling motion controls. Additionally, the Pocket Air Mini packs a 4,500 mAh battery that supports 18 W wired charging.
According to the YouTuber TechDweeb, the entry-level 2 GB of RAM variant is not powerful enough to emulate Nintendo 3DS or Switch games. However, many GameCube and PlayStation 2 games run across the handheld's 1,280 x 960-pixel and 500 nit display. Better still, PSP games run well at 2x integer scaling, as are PlayStation, Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 games at higher scaling levels.
The Ayaneo Pocket Air Mini is available to back for around $69.99 on Indiegogo with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, with shipping set for the end of November. Alternatively, the device can be picked up for $79.99 with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. The cost of each SKU will eventually rise to the prices shown above, though.
