Retroid has quietly dropped a new version of the Pocket Mini on its website. For context, less than two months have passed since the company released the Pocket Classic and Pocket Flip 2 globally. While those pair have been initially well received, Retroid has struggled to rectify display issues on the original Pocket Mini.
In short, one of the more popular solutions proved to be a new front panel, which Retroid will ship to anyone willing to undergo a lengthy disassembly and reassembly process. Now, it has listed the Pocket Mini V2 on its website for $199 before its eventual global release. Currently, it is unclear when the new variant will be available. However, Retroid is already offering the device in China, so we suspect a global launch is not far behind.
In the meantime, one can peruse Retroid's new listing, which confirms all key device specifications like the continued inclusion of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset and 6 GB of LPDDR4x RAM. As a result, the Pocket Mini should get close to more expensive Android gaming handhelds like the Ayn Odin2 (curr. $449 on Amazon).
As the image below shows, the Pocket Mini V2 comes with a 4,000 mAh battery that supports 27 W wired charging, as well as the 3.92-inch AMOLED display from the Pocket Classic that outputs natively at 1,240 x 1,080 pixels with a 60 Hz refresh rate. As far as we can tell, this new version of the Pocket Mini will only ever be available in black.
