91mobiles has spotted what could be Asus' next-generation handheld console on the FCC website. Dubbed as the Asus ROG Ally 2, it will launch as the proper successor to the original ROG Ally that launched two years ago. Additionally, ITHome also seen it break cover on Korea's RRA certification board, further heralding its imminent arrival. Eagle-eyed X user @94G8LA has spotted an important detail on the console's stickers. One variant will run AMD's Ryzen Z2 Extreme, while the other will use an unannounced AMD APU.
The ROG Ally 2, codename RC73 (sub-variants R73XA/R73YA), will come with remarkably more storage than its last-gen counterparts. It will come in 512 GB/1 TB/2 TB storage variants. There's no word about RAM, but it will likely keep the same 24 GB LPDDR5x modules from the ROG Ally X. Lastly, the above-mentioned FCC listing confirms wireless connectivity will be limited to a Wi-Fi 6E module from MediaTek and that charging speeds will vary between 65 Watts and 100 Watts depending on the variant.
We also get our first look at the ROG Ally 2 in two colour variants: Black and Gardenia White. Videocardz spotted an interesting detail on the former. If you look closely next to the left thumb stick, you'll see the button has a distinct Xbox logo, something that is notably absent from the latter. A previous rumour stated Asus was working in tandem with Microsoft to develop an Xbox-branded handheld, and this might very well be it.
Apart from the Xbox button, the Black ROG Ally 2 variant also shows off some interesting design changes, such as two USB-C ports placed side-by-side on the top edge. There's a good chance this is likely a prototype and that the retail version will relocate the port to a better location that makes more functional sense. The handheld's design has largely remained the same with a few parts move around to keep things fresh.
