Sporting a retro handheld look, the Interrupt is a "portable hacking computer" recently launched on Kickstarter and is the first product to be crowd-funded by start-up Interrupt Tech. According to the start-up, the Interrupt was designed with makers in mind and features an open-source system to offer developers complete control over the hardware and software. While similar devices opt for ESP32-based internals, like the Flipper Zero, the Interrupt uses a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W with options for various distros to interface with the onboard hardware.
Onboard the Interrupt, users will have access to offerings similar to the Flipper Zero with a few notable additions. Though still in its final prototyping phase, the Interrupt is proposed to feature the following:
- 2000 mAh 3.7V Li-Po battery
- 3.5-inch IPS 480x320, capacitive touch screen.
- Programmable GPIO
- 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, CC1101 Sub-1 GHz radio
- NFC/RFID
- IR TX/RX
- SD card slot
- ABS Plastic Housing
- Keyboard and gamepad buttons
The proposed touchscreen, keyboard, and gamepad buttons could provide significant flexibility when it comes to the general use of the device. Additionally, despite not having the engagement of a dedicated community yet, Interrupt is positioned to integrate the already active space supporting the Zero 2 W. However, with an asking price of $199 on Kickstarter, Interrupt and Flipper Zero share some common ground regarding the cost of entry.
