Many gamers question whether the Asus ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will be a sales success. Still, an attractive price could convince buyers to try the new handheld gaming PC options. According to well-known leaker eXtas1s, the lower-powered ROG Xbox Ally will cost €599. Meanwhile, the ROG Xbox Ally X could carry an asking price of $ €899. After speaking with European retailers, eXtas1s learned that the Xbox handheld series would launch in October. Pre-orders for the devices could begin in August.
Buyers should consider the latest rumor cautiously since eXtas1s doesn't have a perfect track record. Still, the European pricing of the new handhelds would rival the ROG Ally and ROG Ally X. On the other hand, U.S. pricing could make the devices more attractive. While not confirmed, eXtas1s, in his YouTube podcast, suggested a $499/$799 price point. Gamers can often find the ROG Ally on sale, but the AMD Z1 Extreme version carries a $700 MSRP. Meanwhile, the ROG Ally X with more memory and storage is $899 without discounts.
It's problematic to compare the ROG Xbox Ally to the existing model because they use different processors. A cheaper ROG Ally was originally launched with the Ryzen Z1 chip. However, that version is now difficult to find compared to the $700 Z1 Extreme alternative. The ROG Xbox Ally will use the Ryzen Z2 A, which has fewer cores and threads. By contrast, the ROG Xbox Ally X utilizes the AI Z2 Extreme, which is a step up from the non-Xbox version's Z1 Extreme.
The less expensive ROG Xbox Ally should benefit from a larger battery capacity. Also, both Asus Xbox handheld models will feature Microsoft's enhanced UI for gaming and revamped controls. Even so, the company is likely to introduce improved software to other Windows devices in 2026. Handheld gaming PC buyers may not have much incentive to consider Microsoft's candidates.
