YouTuber JerryRigEverything has posted a new video on the Nintendo Switch 2, which gives a look inside the gaming handheld. While the clip is mostly about tearing the device apart, it transitions into a durability test toward the end, and the screen appears to be impressively shatter-resistant.
Zack, the YouTuber, first peeled off the plastic protective layer that's on top of the screen, which, according to Nintendo, is there to prevent glass shards from scattering in case the display gets damaged. It's pretty evident in the video that the film is set firm to the screen and won't be coming off on its own.
After taking a look into the internals of Switch 2, the YouTuber begins to test the durability of the screen. In the first round, the gaming handheld took 13 big blows from large pliers, and there appeared to be no damage at all. The device's display took another 14 solid hits, and it was still in one piece.
The screen shattered only after 50 hits from the big pliers, and as Nintendo claimed, the glass shards do fly off. However, seeing the Switch 2 screen hold strong throughout the 50 hits is quite impressive. What's more interesting is that the gaming handheld was functioning normally even after taking these big blows.
Of course, given how the glass shards fly off when the screen shatters, it's best to keep the protective layer on. This plastic layer can scratch pretty easily, but a glass screen protector is an easy solution (JSAUX 3-Pack tempered glass protector curr. $7.58 on Amazon).
