With uncertainty surrounding upcoming gaming systems, a new Nintendo console may seem unlikely. Even so, code embedded on the Nintendo Account portal could allude to unannounced hardware. “OSM” might stand for a Switch 2 Pro model with an OLED screen or a more affordable Lite alternative.

Nintendo hasn’t unveiled a new console since the launch of the Switch 2 in June 2025. While that’s unsurprising, the company has regularly refreshed existing hardware. Sky: 3 stumbled onto some mysterious code on the Nintendo Account portal site, which could point to a future revision. Gamers are now speculating that “OSM” could signal a Switch 2 Pro or a cheaper Lite model.

Sky: 3 explains that after entering the code on the site, an illustration of the Switch 2 appears. However, the generic image doesn’t narrow down what the final system might look like. In response to the Bluesky post, Aaron Dewes confirmed that the discovery originated in September 2025.

The meaning of "OSM"

Another three-digit code, “BEE,” refers to the already released handheld. This identification can also be spotted on various accessories and game cartridges. Even so, it remains unclear what the acronym stands for. Nevertheless, fans are suggesting plenty of possibilities for the significance of “OSM.”

One guess is that Nintendo could unveil an “OLED Screen Model” for the Switch 2. Some gamers expressed disappointment after learning that the console would ship with an LCD display. Given the cost as one concern, the company may wait several years to introduce an OLED version, as it did with the original handheld.

What else might a Switch 2 Pro offer?

Rumors about a Switch Pro with an upgraded screen and higher resolution began in 2018. The theoretical device eventually evolved into the Switch 2. A Switch 2 Pro might become a reality, but the current hardware is already proving powerful enough for most third-party games. Even so, the console’s 256GB of internal storage has become an issue with chunky releases like Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Nintendo could move in the opposite direction with a Lite refresh. Some observers expect an “Ounce Small Model”, which would address complaints about the high Switch 2 price. A smaller display is an option with a system that lacks docking capabilities.

It also can’t be ruled out that the manufacturer would upgrade the older Switch. Regardless, facing rising storage and memory costs, it’s a perilous time to design new hardware.
