The accessory manufacturer Retro Fighters has unveiled an interesting product for the Nintendo Switch 2 (from $449 on Amazon) in the video embedded below. The so-called Battle Dock does not replace the included docking station of the Nintendo Switch 2. Instead, Nintendo’s dock is inserted into the Battle Dock before the hybrid console is connected to the dock.
The Battle Dock expands the console with four GameCube controller ports on the front. This means original Nintendo GameCube controllers can be connected to the console, which makes it possible to play GameCube titles included in the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack in a more authentic way. These games include The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Luigi's Mansion and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Nintendo plans to expand the catalog soon with Super Mario Sunshine and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.
From a technical perspective, this is nothing new, as there are already numerous GameCube USB adapters for the Nintendo Switch 2 dock. However, the Battle Dock arguably looks more stylish. The design of the Battle Dock is clearly inspired by the Nintendo GameCube, as the accessory uses a purple and light gray color scheme. Those who prefer a more distinctive look can swap out the purple front cover that is magnetically attached to the housing. In the video, the manufacturer also showcases covers in black, orange and gray. Retro Fighters has not yet confirmed when the Battle Dock will be launch, the official price also remains up in the air.
