Rumors have been circulating for years that the Apple MacBook Pro will be equipped with an OLED display. According to the latest information from leaker yeux1122, Samsung Display has now opened the factory that will produce the displays for Apple's next-generation flagship laptops.
Hence, the display now seems to be ahead of Apple's timeline. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that the MacBook Pro with the Apple M6 Pro and M6 Max will be released earlier than previously expected – rumors indicate a launch towards the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027. With this upgrade, the MacBook Pro is also expected to receive a touchscreen for the first time, while Apple is reportedly fundamentally redesigning the flagship laptop to give it a thinner, lighter chassis and a display with narrower bezels and a punch-hole instead of a notch.
Meanwhile, DigiTimes, reports that the MacBook Pro is just the beginning. Over the next three years, Apple plans to switch four more product lines from LCD to OLED displays, including the iPad mini, which is set to receive an OLED display later this year, the iPad Air and iMac in 2027, and the MacBook Air, which is expected to receive an upgrade to an OLED display in 2028. Apple already uses OLED panels in the iPhone, iPad Pro, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro VR headset. OLED generally enables higher HDR peak brightness, deeper blacks and faster response times.
