It is an open secret that a budget-oriented MacBook variant has been in the works over at Apple for a while now. Priced even lower than the 13-inch MacBook Air (currently $850 on Amazon), the affordable MacBook will sport a smaller display and utilize an A-series SoC from an older iPhone generation to power itself.
According to fresh tidbits shared by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is unlikely to cut corners when it comes to build quality. The low price point may have encouraged people to assume that Apple might opt for a plastic build, but that is not the case. The budget MacBook will still sport an aluminum enclosure, with Apple having developed a new process that allows the fabrication process to be sped up, while also saving on costs.
The budget MacBook will be offered in exciting colorways
Mark further states that the budget MacBook will ship with a bunch of "playful" color options, which should help make the product appealing to students and younger audiences. The colors that have been tested include light blue, light yellow, pink, classic silver, and dark gray - Mark, however, claims that there is a possibility that not all of these colors may ship. Either way, having color options will certainly help the product reach a wider audience.
With a launch set for some time in March, the budget MacBook will definitely be an interesting product. Mark did not share any insights into its specifications, but current industry murmurs appear to indicate an A18 Pro SoC, a 12.9-inch IPS display, and a price tag that is unlikely to exceed $800.
