While most laptops on the market now offer a touchscreen as a option, Apple has so far consistently refused to equip its laptops with a touch-sensitive display. This is set to change with the next-generation MacBook Pro. On the other hand, the Intricuit Magic Screen, an accessory that allows users to add a touchscreen to their MacBook, will soon be available.
The Magic Screen is a transparent plexiglass sheet that magnetically attaches to the display of a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. The gadget then simply needs to be connected to the laptop via a USB-C cable, and macOS can be operated with a finger. Basic touch input should work without any drivers or additional software, but the manufacturer's app is required for more advanced features.
Intricuit Magic Screen comes with a stylus designed to make drawing, using Photoshop brushes, or creating 3D models on a MacBook more comfortable. It's also possible to use Magic Screen as a drawing tablet away from the MacBook's display. A magnetically attached case on the back of the MacBook's display supports the screen, providing the necessary stability for drawing. Magic Screen must be removed before closing the laptop.
Price and availability
The Intricuit Magic Screen will be available for the 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro, as well as the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air. The touchscreen accessory is set to be funded "soon" via Kickstarter, where the product will be offered for $139. Delivery is scheduled to begin before the end of March.
