Known-leaker Ice Universe has revealed the screen sizes and aspect ratios of the Apple iPhone Fold and the Samsung Wide Fold. Both phones appear remarkably similar at first glance. However, upon closer inspection, a major design difference starts to appear between the two foldable phones.

The much-rumored Apple iPhone Fold is finally taking shape, as a 3D-printed unit and CAD renders of the phone have now surfaced online. The design of the iPhone Fold is reportedly a major departure from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold devices and is more in line with Passport-style foldable smartphones like the OG Oppo Find N. The iPhone Fold is said to be shorter and wider than book-style foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Not to be left behind, Samsung is also allegedly preparing a Passport-style folding phone to go head-to-head with the iPhone Fold. Currently referred to by the online world as the “Samsung Wide Fold”, the phone is expected to pack a 4:3 aspect ratio inner display. Ice Universe has now compared the designs of the iPhone Fold and the Samsung Wide Fold to showcase the striking similarities and a major difference between the two devices.

Demoing what appear to be dummy units of the iPhone Fold and Samsung Wide Fold, Ice Universe claims that, while unfolded, both phones feature a 4:3 aspect ratio. The screen sizes reported by Ice Universe are different from Ben Geskin’s 3D-printed iPhone Fold dummy unit. Ice Universe alleges a 5.35-inch outer display and a 7.58-inch inner screen for the iPhone Fold.
The Samsung Wide Fold seemingly features roughly the same-sized inner and outer displays with a 5.4-inch outer panel and a 7.6-inch inner screen. So, assuming a similar weight and thickness, both the iPhone Fold and the Samsung Wide Fold will offer a similar hand feel.

However, despite both Samsung and Apple going for wider foldable phones with a 4:3 aspect ratio inner display, the Samsung Wide Fold seems to have a sharper, more angular aesthetic. The iPhone Fold, on the other hand, has a design akin to the original Google Pixel Fold with round edges.

The original Oppo Find N’s wider and shorter design had its merits. It was super compact when folded and, when unfolded, opened in a landscape orientation, which many prefer over the portrait orientation popularized by the Galaxy Z Fold series. So, we are excited to see Apple do something different than Samsung and prioritize a Passport-style form factor.

That said, the Samsung Wide Fold and the iPhone Fold are expected to be available in the second half of 2026. There is still a lot of time for both Samsung and Apple to change their plans. So, take all rumors, including those about form factor and designs, with a grain of salt.
