The iPhone Fold is likely almost a year away from being launched. Nonetheless, Digital Chat Station claims to obtained new information about the device ahead of schedule.
For the time being, no official name has emerged. As a result, Digital Chat Station refers to the device as 'Apple's foldable', which they report features a circa 7.58-inch foldable display with under-panel camera (UPC) technology. Designed to eliminate a punch-hole camera, Samsung has moved away from UPC technology first with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition and then with the Galaxy Z TriFold and Galaxy Z Fold7 this year (curr. $1,599 on Amazon).
Meanwhile, the iPhone Fold's cover display is said to be a 5.25-inch panel using hole-in-active-area (HIAA) technology. Incidentally, Apple is also expected to utilise HIAA technology in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max to reduce front-facing camera sizes.
Apparently, these displays are still set to be paired with 48 MP dual rear-facing cameras and a side-mounted Touch ID sensor. As a result, Digital Chat Station anticipates that the iPhone Fold will eschew Face ID altogether to achieve as thin a profile as possible.
