Earlier this month, Samsung finally fully detailed its long-awaited alternative to Huawei's Mate XT and Mate XTs tri-foldable smartphones. At the time, Samsung indicated that the Galaxy Z TriFold would be available first in South Korea on December 12. However, the company has now taken a different approach.
Specifically, it has decided to open pre-sales for the device in China before other markets. For context, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE and the US are expected to receive the Galaxy Z TriFold too. It remains to be seen when at this stage, though. In the meantime, Samsung has revealed full pricing information for the device and the memory configurations in which it will be available.
Previously, the company had outlined a starting price of KRW 3,590,540 (~$2,442). Now, it has clarified that the Galaxy Z TriFold will retail for CNY 19,999 in China with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Equivalent to $2,830.99 at current exchange rates, including taxes, this pricing is around CNY 5,000 (~$708) more expensive than a comparable Galaxy Z Fold7 memory configuration (curr. $1,918.99 on Amazon).
Alternatively, the Galaxy Z TriFold is available with 1 TB of storage and the same 16 GB of RAM but for CNY 21,999 (~$3,115). In other words, the device costs about as much as the original Galaxy Fold did when it launched in 2019.
