Report: Galaxy Z TriFold sales ending in Korea, US to follow suit

Samsung unveiled its Galaxy Z TriFold in its home country of South Korea in December last year and the US launch followed in January this year. It was Samsung’s first tri-fold, even though it only folds twice, but not the first tri-fold to hit the market. Now, if the latest report coming out of the home country are accurate, sales for the ultra-premium phone are ending.

The report from Donga (machine translated from Korean) states that tomorrow, March 17, will mark the end of sales for the Galaxy Z TriFold in the domestic market. Insiders believe the reason for the short three-month spell was high production costs and the uncertainty surrounding RAM and storage pricing. With those costs ever increasing, it didn’t make financial sense for Samsung to continue selling the Galaxy Z TriFold.

Samsung said from the start that the tri-fold will only be available in limited quantities so it’s not very surprising that the sales are coming to an end now. The company has also official stated that the Galaxy Z TriFold was more of a flex than a mass market product anyways.

As for the US, it is uncertain how much longer the tri-fold will be available for purchase. The report claims that the current production lot is the last, but till then, sales will continue as scheduled. The premium phone costs $2,899 and is available in limited quantities. It is currently listed as sold out on the Samsung store, which is the only place it was ever available. The US launch for the phone happened end of January to it’s been less than two months that the phone has been on sale. Even still, there have been some reports of the display being damaged and Samsung offering refunds instead of replacements.

It should be noted that Samsung has not shared any information on sales ending in Korea or the US, so take this with a grain of salt.
