Galaxy Z TriFold 2 tipped alongside Galaxy Slide as Samsung discontinues original TriFold

Recently, Samsung told Bloomberg that it will be discontinuing the Galaxy Z TriFold, a premium foldable that it debuted in December last year. While the short sale period for the phone is not surprising, what’s interesting is that a report of Samsung working on the successor has now surfaced. The company is said to be working on two models, a second-generation TriFold and another variant that slides.
The information comes from known leaker yeux1122 over at the Naver blog. The leaker claims that while the Wide model will be released this year, Samsung has two other smartphones in development. Starting with the Galaxy Z TriFold 2nd generation, the hinge is being worked on or being conceptualized to further reduce the thickness of the phone. It adds that the next TriFold will be even slimmer and lighter compared to the current generation, but still thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (buy on Amazon). Said foldable might release in mid-2027, according to the leak.
This comes as an interesting development because Samsung is believed to have discontinued the current Galaxy Z TriFold because of production costs and low profit. It was meant to be a proof of the company’s prowess and not a mass market device anyways. Samsung’s Chief Operating Officer Won-Joon Choi had stated that the company isn't sure if it would work on a second generation. Whether or not the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 actually becomes reality, remains to be seen.
As for the second model in development, Samsung is said to be prototyping a sliding phone. Such a device was seen at MWC but it was a manual slider and a bit on the chunky side. The leak states that the new version is also a manual slider but is thinner than the sample shown at MWC. It is said to expand to an approximately 7-inch display. Samsung is expected to unveil this device by late next year or early 2028.
