Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5 transforms from compact tablet to gaming handheld with new accessory

Lenovo has updated its G9 controller accessory for 2026. For context, the company released the original Legion G9 last year alongside the Legion G9 Pro. While Lenovo has not unveiled a new version of the Legion G9 Pro yet, the Legion G9 2026 builds on both controllers while retaining the ability to transform the Legion Tab Gen 5 and Legion Y700 Gen 5 into quasi-gaming handhelds.
For instance, Lenovo has replaced last year's four-way d-pad with an eight-way alternative pioneered by modern Xbox controllers. To that end, the Legion G9 2026 features an ABXY button layout. Lenovo has equipped its new controller with 12 micro switches rated for 5 million cycles, including four on the accessory's rear.
The Legion G9 2026 contains the same asymmetric joystick layout as Xbox Series S|X controllers (curr. $44.99 on Amazon). According to Lenovo, these Hall effect joysticks offer a 250 Hz polling rate too, with lifespans of 5 million cycles. Also, Lenovo has included Hall effect triggers, dual rumble motors, a 3.5 mm jack and RGB lighting, all within a package that measures 322.3 x 135.5 x 53.8 mm.
The Legion G9 2026 is officially only compatible with the Legion Y700 Gen 5 via the tablet's side-mounted USB Type-C port. However, the controller should work with the Legion Tab Gen 5, too. Lenovo has not clarified whether the Legion G9 2026 will be sold globally, though. For reference, Lenovo has priced its new controller at CNY 499 (~$73) in China.
