8BitDo releases two new devices to celebrate Nintendo 64 gaming

The 8BitDo 64 is now around eighteen months old. While pre-orders for the controller opened in October 2024, it did not begin shipping until July 2025. Since then, 8BitDo has introduced multiple 8BitDo 64 refreshes, including the Prototype Limited Editions that landed in February.
Now, the company has updated the 8BitDo 64 again with a version lacking Bluetooth connectivity. Instead, the new release complements the standard wired mode with 2.4 GHz connectivity. As a result, the 8Bitdo 64 2.4 G provides compatibility with the Analogue 3D, Nintendo 64 and machines running Windows 10 (1903) or later.
As far as we can tell, the only other difference is memory function support, with saves being stored on a paired receiver that can be exported via 8BitDo's Ultimate Software. Also, the company has released an accompanying Nintendo 64 Retro Receiver. Pictured above, the new Retro Receiver supports Bluetooth Low Energy for compatibility with dozens of 8BitDo controllers as well as the 8BitDo 64. Moreover, the Nintendo 64 Retro Receiver can work with popular third-party options like the Switch 64 Online Controller, Xbox Series S|X controllers, DualShock 4 and DualSense generation controllers.
The Retro Receiver costs $24.99 in its own regard via Amazon or 8BitDo's eShop. Meanwhile, the 8BitDo 64 2.4G retails for $39.99. As a result, the new controller costs just as much as Black and White versions with Bluetooth connectivity. However, the new release also includes a Retro Receiver in the box for that price. Both devices should begin shipping on March 23 in the US.
