Dragonkin: The Banished is now out of early access
Dragonkin: The Banished is the newest ARPG to hit the market. Developed by indie developer Eko Software, it is a mix of tried-and-tested tropes and some fresh mechanics.

The runaway success of Diablo 4, Path of Exile 2 and Last Epoch has spawned a lot of clones on the market. While some of them—like Crystalfall—reuse the tried and tested formula with labyrinthine passive trees and bog-standard progression, others, like Darkhaven, try to give a new spin to the genre. Now, a new entrant has entered the arena called Dragonkin: The Banished

Unlike most ARPGs that have you pick a class and proceed from there, Dragonkin: The Banished lets you play them all in the tutorial. After that, you can pick between a Knight, Barbarian, Oracle and Tracker, and start from scratch. Its skill tree is intriguing, with primary abilities and supports linked together, which have to be then slotted in a hexagonal grid. Initially, most of the grid is locked, with additional slots unraveling as you hit level caps.

For all their accolades, Diablo and Path of Exile make it frustratingly difficult to switch between different builds. Dragonkin: The Banished addresses that by letting you snapshot multiple builds and save them, making switching seamless. That said, the game has some rough edges, but that is to be expected because
Eko Software is a relatively new player in the ARPG space.

Currently, the game sits at a little over 1,000 positive reviews on Steam. Many players praise Dragonkin: The Banished for its fresh take on gameplay and robust endgame—something that afflicts even Last Epoch. Detractors, on the other hand,  call it a lifeless Diablo 2 clone that brings nothing new to the table. Either way, if you’re done with the current POE season and are looking for something new, give it a try.

You can buy Dragonkin: The Banished on Steam for $22.49 or its equivalent regional price. That is 10% lower than its asking price of $24. The promotion is valid for a little over 24 hours at the time of writing
