A new game combining ARPG and roguelike elements is set to launch on Steam on January 9. Thanks in part to a 40-minute gameplay video, it is already topping the "Popular Upcoming" charts ahead of its release.

The Rangers in the South is a roguelike ARPG with charming 2.5D graphics inspired by SNES classics. Players step into the role of a ranger tasked with saving the southern lands from an encroaching corruption. A standout feature is the customizable character creation, allowing players to choose from hundreds of unique abilities, traits and procedurally generated equipment.

As an ARPG, The Rangers in the South features thrilling quests and choices that shape the game’s progression. Its roguelike nature introduces an added challenge, featuring procedurally generated levels and permanent death that resets the game after each defeat. This creates the genre's unique appeal, encouraging players to devise new strategies with every run to push further into the world.

The Rangers in the South does not include a free demo, leaving fans with only a 40-minute gameplay video to gauge the game. Yet, this was seemingly enough to propel it to the top of Steam's "Popular Upcoming" charts on its release day. The Rangers In The South, which was released on 9 January, is available on Steam for $3.99.
