The Nintendo Switch 2 is undeniably the most anticipated gaming console expected to debut this year. The successor to the 2017 Nintendo Switch has been the subject of numerous leaks, and this will be the case up until its release. The latest leak comes in the form of renders that leave nothing to the imagination with respect to its design.
Shared by OnLeaks in partnership with 91Mobiles, the renders of the Nintendo Switch 2 confirm that while Nintendo is sticking to the same detachable controllers design of the Switch and Switch OLED, the overall design has been revamped.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will keep the flat display and minimal bezel thickness of its predecessor, but while it is impossible to tell from the renders, the display is reported to be much larger. Compared to the original Switch (available on Amazon for $299.99) and Switch OLED which have 6.2'' and 7.0'' displays respectively, the Switch 2 is said to sport an 8.4'' screen, 0.4'' smaller than that of the Lenovo Legion Go (available on Amazon for $649). If you have been considering using your Switch OLED's carrying case for the Switch 2, its larger size has shattered that possibility.
The renders show the Switch 2 will keep the same joystick and button layout of its predecessor, but there's a new button marked C
below the home button on the right Joy-Con. The button's function is currently unknown, but there's a possibility that will be revealed ahead of the launch. The Joy-Cons also have an extra button behind the ZR
and ZL
buttons.
The top of the Switch 2 is home to the power and volume buttons on the far left while the USB-C port, audio jack, and the game card slot sit on the far right. The vents have also been redesigned. The bottom of the console has the docking slot and slits for the speakers on each end.
Nintendo has also redesigned the kickstand, but based on the new design, it doesn't seem as if the microSD card slot will remain hidden behind the kickstand. The renders of the Switch 2 also don't show a new position for the microSD slot.
Unfortunately, the renders do not show the Nintendo Switch 2's dock which is reported to be limited to 4K 30 fps when in use.
The Nintendo Switch 2 doesn't have a release date yet and Nintendo seems to be enjoying the anticipation as it has kept a tight lip on details of the console.
