The Asus ROG Ally, powered by AMD's Ryzen Z1 Extreme, has just received a sizeable $205 price cut at Amazon, making it officially cheaper than the 1 TB Steam Deck OLED and the Lenovo Legion Go it competes with directly. We liked the Asus ROG Ally in our review for its great gaming performance and outstanding 120 Hz display.

The Asus ROG Ally has been one of the most popular gaming handhelds since it launched, and for good reason. The Ally combines portability, performance, and ergonomics in a way that many other Windows-powered gaming handhelds before it failed to do. Now, thanks to a massive $205 discount on Amazon, the ROG Ally is also the cheapest Windows gaming handheld powered by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, coming in at just $444.99. This deal is being offered by the Amazon-owned Woot store, so it's a reputable seller, although it is listed as a pre-order, so there may be a short wait before getting the device.

If you don't want to wait, however, the Asus ROG Ally is available at $499.99 from Best Buy, which is still a sizeable $150 discount off the regular MSRP of $649.99.

In terms of basic specifications, the ROG Ally is powered by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme, which features eight Zen 4 cores with SMT, for a total of 16 threads. This CPU cluster is paired with the AMD Radeon 780M iGPU and 16 GB of LPDDR5-6400 RAM, making the 7-inch handheld handily keep up with the likes of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 and even the GTX 1650 Ti in some scenarios.

In our review of the Asus ROG Ally, we found that the handheld delivered decent performance in even many modern AAA titles, as long as graphics settings were kept in check. AMD's FSR upscaling tech built into the RDNA 3 iGPU also goes a long way towards playable frame rates.

Another aspect of the ROG Ally that impressed us was the comfortable control scheme with Hall-effect triggers for added longevity and customisation. The 120 Hz display with AMD FreeSync is also a major boon for the gaming handheld, since frame rates in more demanding games are often going to be far below the 120 Hz maximum. Without VRR support, there would be noticeable tearing when gaming at those lower frame rates.

If you're looking to take your games on the go, and especially if you mostly play indie titles or older AAA games, the Asus ROG Ally is a great value, especially since the Ryzen Z1 Extreme version now costs the same as its Ryzen Z1-powered counterpart.
