The ASUS ROG Ally models are on sale up to $200 off MSRP at BestBuy US before Valentine's Day. Powered by an AMD Ryzen Z1 series CPU, the Ally models deliver tweakble handheld performance to gamers today on a smooth 7" Freesync Premium LCD with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD.

The ASUS ROG Ally Z1 handheld gaming PCs are on sale at BestBuy. These handhelds are among the better performing models available today and can run both Windows 10/11 and Linux. The tweakability of settings allow gamers to run most games with good performance.

Both models come with 16 GB RAM, a 512 GB SSD, and a buttery-smooth 7" FullHD LCD with FreeSync Premium variable refresh rate up to 120 Hz. The base Ally Z1 runs a 6-core/12-thread CPU while the Ally Z1 Extreme runs a 8-core/16-thread CPU. Both CPUs offer performance competitive with many regular low to mid-range office laptops.

For gaming, the Z1 offers a AMD RDNA 3 GPU with 4 compute units while the Z1 Extreme offers 12 compute units. Graphics performance of both models are closer on battery power, while the Z1 Extreme pulls ahead on A.C. power. This becomes moot when the Ally models are paired with the optional ASUS XG Mobile external GPU that provides even better desktop gaming performance.

The ROG Armoury Crate SE application provides quick access to tweakable settings to allow for fine-tuning of game performance versus cooling and battery life. Although the Ally is not as out-of-the-box optimized as the Steam Deck due to Windows, processor, and fan settings, the ability to customize and tune is the key to a great experience with either Ally model. The LCD screen also avoids the Steam Deck OLED issue of screen burn-in.

Some early revisions had a potential microSD card failure issue due to poor soldering, but this should be addressed by the R9 and newer revisions and covered by ASUS warranty.

Why not pick up an ASUS ROG Ally today before Valentine's Day?
