One of the biggest changes coming to Lenovo's recently announced Legion Go 2 gaming handheld is the redesigned detachable controllers, which both offer better ergonomics and more controls than the ones found on the predecessor. Fortunately, as confirmed by one enterprising redditor on the r/LegionGo subreddit, the new Legion Go 2 controllers will be backwards compatible with the old Legion Go, making them a neat upgrade for existing Legion Go owners.
The detachable controller designs are something of a point of contention for many owners of the Legion Go, with many owners opting to shell swap the controllers with something more comfortable. This makes the newly redesigned Legion Go 2 controllers an interesting prospect for those who are interested in doing a shell swap but don't want to go down the potentially sketchy 3D printing route.
According to the information posted in the Reddit post, the Legion Go 2 controllers will be available in the Lenovo spares catalogue, where you can find the existing Legion Go controllers at a premium of $60.97 for the left controller and $67.83 for the more complicated right-side controller. The pricing of the controller upgrades may be something of a deterrent for all but the most dedicated Legion Go gamers, but the confirmation of backwards compatibility has already generated quite a bit of hype in the Reddit community.
Unfortunately, the Lenovo representative who confirmed the availability and backwards compatibility was still unable to confirm an exact launch date for the Legion Go 2 — simply citing “soon” in response to the question — or the controller spares. In the meantime, however, the Lenovo Legion Go S has been confirmed to be arriving in February, with pre-orders opening at Best Buy (curr. $729.99) earlier this week.
