Square Enix's new policy says it will take legal action against people who harass their employees
Square Enix has announced a "Group Customer Harassment Policy" that will let the company deny its services or take legal action against people who harass their employees.
As to what constitutes abusive behavior, the policy lists "denial of personality, violence, defamation, intimidation, advance notice of wrongdoing, advance notice of obstruction of business, harassment."
This includes personal attacks on email, social media, or in person. The company will also not look kindly upon people who encroach on its premises or enter its offices without permission.
The policy also lists what it terms as "Undue demand," which it defines as "changes or exchange of product or request for monetary compensation" and "Excessive requests for the provision of products and services exceeding socially accepted norms."
What's interesting is that it also covers situations like "Unreasonable response or request for an apology" and "Unreasonable and excessive demands for punishment of our employees."
This feels like a defense mechanism against the kind of controversy its games have been generating recently. There was a lot of uproar against censorship in the Dragon Quest III in the HD-2D Remake.
Then fans accused the company of censoring Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, four years after its release. And of course, Wuk Lamat in Final Fantasy 14 online.
