Amenti is a term derived from Egyptian mythology that refers to the underworld. It served as a purgatory - a place between life and death, where souls underwent trials and faced their greatest fears.
DarkPhobia Games, best known for Graveyard Shift, explores these concepts in Amenti. You play as a photographer who enters the recently discovered tomb of Pharoh Rudamon. As luck would have it, entering the tomb triggers an ancient curse.
The gameplay looks similar to other walking simulator/horror titles with some adventure elements. Turns out, you're not only a photographer but also a historian who must investigate ancient artifacts and explore your surroundings to make it out alive.
The game also seems to have a unique camera mechanic where you photograph ghostly apparitions. As the Steam page listing says - "At first, you might only notice frightening details in your photos, but as you progress, the horror will reveal itself in real time."
Amenti was developed by a two-member team using Unreal Engine 5, and the visuals they have managed to pull off here look really good. It currently sits on a "Very Positive" rating on Steam. A few negative reviews mention some problems with the User Interface (UI) and bugs.
Like the developer's previous games, this one is short, but at $6.99 (€6.78 or £5.69), it might be worth roaming an ancient tomb for a few hours.
