Nintendo has officially denied any connection to a mockup of its next-generation gaming console displayed at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. The Japanese gaming giant, which did not participate in the event, issued statements to the Japanese outlet Sankei Shimbun and CNET's Japan division, describing the hardware as “unofficial and not provided by us.”
During CES, Genki, a hardware brand under Human Things, unveiled a 3D-printed mockup of what it claimed to be Nintendo's next-generation console. The mockup introduced several alleged features, including a new "C button" and an optical sensor. The company also revealed plans to manufacture peripherals for the upcoming console and suggested a potential April release for the Switch 2.
Nintendo, known for its tight control over product information, responded swiftly. In addition to refuting any affiliation with Genki’s mockup, the company clarified that recently surfaced images and videos of the purported Switch 2 were not official. Nintendo told CNET that “the gaming hardware that Genki presented as Nintendo hardware at CES is unofficial and was not provided to the company by us.” Furthermore, the gaming giant told Japan’s Sankei Shimbun that recently leaked images and videos “are not official.” This marks a clear attempt by Nintendo to distance itself from unverified leaks and maintain secrecy around its highly anticipated console.
While Nintendo has not confirmed specific details about its next gaming system, the company has previously indicated that the Switch's successor is expected to be officially announced within the current fiscal year, which will end on March 31.
