An updated Nintendo Switch 2 is seemingly on the cards for an April launch, and one of the biggest expected upgrades coming to the Nintendo handheld is the redesigned Joy-Con controllers. One feature that sparked a lot of speculation early on following those controller leaks was the presence of a new button bearing the letter "C". If new — somewhat shifty — leaks are to be believed, we now have an idea of what to expect from this new Switch 2 "C" button.
The leak, supposedly obtained by data mining the current Switch OS and Switch 2 SDK leaks, claims that the new "C" button will be for a feature called Campus, which will serve as a sort of social hub for the Switch 2. Supposedly, Campus will also be able to serve as a multiplayer chat, with voice chats and group chats containing up to 12 participants.
Additionally, Campus, and consequently the "C" button, will also enable screen capture and screen sharing, making it a sort of stand-in for Discord in the PC gaming space. The wording of the leak suggests that Campus, or at least some of its social features, may be tied to a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
In an ensuing Famiboards discussion, the authenticity of the leak has been called into question, and the feature has already received criticism for its dependence on the subscription fee. To be fair, there are a fair few Switch fans who are excited that the Switch 2 will be introducing a feature-rich social platform, especially one with screen sharing. However, there are as many who are perplexed about why Nintendo doesn't just integrate Discord.
