Released in October 2024, some criticized the Nintendo Alarmo as an overpriced novelty. However, that hasn't stopped demand for the alarm clock, which often sells for higher than its $100 MSRP at auction sites. The Alarmo is currently only available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, but that will soon change. Nintendo's X account confirmed that the cute red clock will reach participating retailers in March.
The Alarmo isn't a feature-packed smart clock or speaker like the Amazon Echo Spot. Still, Nintendo's accessory is more than a traditional alarm clock. Owners can place the Alarmo on nightstands, and its motion sensors will detect when a person leaves a bed. Sound effects grow louder until the waking-up process is complete. The device's 2.8-inch LCD screen plays 42 scenes celebrating popular Switch titles like Super Mario Odyssey. With a Nintendo account, gamers can also download additional animations.
Last October, Switch 2 accessory leaks had fans hoping for an exciting product announcement. The Nintendo sound clock didn't satisfy those expectations, but it has become a popular accessory nonetheless. Nostalgia and a charming design convinced buyers to purchase the less-than-revolutionary interactive alarm clock.
It's not known what retailers will stock the Alarmo in March. Also, Nintendo may have to increase production significantly to avoid shortages. Switch Online exclusivity was scheduled to end in January before being postponed again. Any promotional tie-ins or Switch 2 capabilities compatible with the Alarmo will only deplete supplies further.
