Nintendo has become increasingly anti-emulation of late. Nonetheless, its recent Sound Clock: Alarmo release is proving incredibly easy to hack. To that end, developers have already shown Doom running on the company's $99 alarm clock.

Nintendo has only recently released the Sound Clock: Alarmo, which it introduced last month for $99.99. To recap, Alarmo is a digital alarm clock rather than new Nintendo Switch hardware. However, it turns out that Alarmo can play games.

Unsurprisingly, Nintendo's $99 alarm clock falls short of even its cheapest Nintendo Switch (curr. $199 on Amazon) in this area. Nonetheless, developer GaryOderNichts has already got Doom running. For context, GaryOderNichts is the same developer who revealed that one could load custom firmware onto Alarmo.

Surprisingly, it is possible to run custom code without disassembling Alarm. Please note that the Doom port has some limitations. For example, it does currently support audio. Still, it seems that this is only the start of Alarmo hacking.

Specifically, GaryOderNichts stated on X (formerly Twitter) that adding LED functionality 'should be somewhat straightforward'. Moreover, the developer hopes to enable Wi-Fi connectivity at some stage. Doom running on Alarmo is not a proof of concept, either. In fact, GaryOderNichts has posted installation instructions on their GitHub, which anyone can access.
