8BitDo has released plenty of controllers this year, including various iterations of the Ultimate 2C. Arguably, the most unusual of the year is the 8BitDo 64, which is Analogue's controller of choice for its new release aimed at hardware emulating Nintendo 64 (N64) games.
While Analogue opted to open pre-orders for the Analogue 3D in black and white finishes simultaneously, 8BitDo had other ideas for its accompanying controller. For some reason, it decided to only sell the 8BitDo 64 in white at launch. Added to that, it was not possible to purchase 8BitDo's controller and Analogue's together, either.
As the likes of Joey's Retro Handhelds have noticed, 8BitDo has quietly opened pre-orders for the black version of its latest controller too. In short, the 8BitDo 64 borrows heavily from the Brawler64 that Retro Fighters has been selling for a while now.
However, 8BitDo has added a Hall effect joystick for improved accuracy and longevity, along with improved connectivity options for use with more systems. The 8BitDo 64 lacks Memory Pak and Transfer Pak accessory support, though. Currently, 8BitDo hopes to start shipping black pre-orders on March 19, 2025. Like its white counterpart, the 8BitDo in black retails for $39.99 on Amazon.
