The popular PSP emulator PPSSPP has been updated to version 1.18. This update brings many changes, but among all of them, one of the main standouts is better in-game performance. As the official announcement describes, a good number of iOS-specific optimizations have been implemented.
However, performance-specific optimization isn't only for iOS. The update, in general, fixes many rendering problems, leading to a smoother game emulation on different platforms. There's also a new post-processing filter, sharp bilinear, which is known for offering fast and efficient upscaling.
As for UI (user interface) improvements, the update adds more button-mappable actions, such as Reset. It also brings three new themes, and version 1.18 has many bug fixes that are specific to the UI. The PSP emulator now has the option to load game save files from ZIP as well.
Worth noting that the initial 1.18 update had bugs that made the PSP emulator crash when running homebrew apps and demos. However, the developer promptly caught the issues and fixed them with version 1.18.1. You can learn about all the changes of the update from the official patch note.
Regarding when this new PPSSPP update will be available, the developers note that it may take a while for it to land on the Google Play Store, but it could be available within the next couple of days. The iOS variant may take even longer. However, you can sideload the new version of the PSP emulator from the official website.
