Doom has officially been ported to its own retail box.
Limited Run Games, a company known for releasing niche indie titles and classic games for retro consoles, announced it will re-release the classic DOS shooters Doom and Doom II in a variety of bundles for modern consoles and PCs. A standard edition, which includes both games and their expansion packs (TNT: Eviloution, The Plutonia Experiment, Master Levels for Doom II, No Rest for the Living, Sigil, Sigil II, and Legacy of Rust) is available for PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch for $29.99.
There is also a "Big Box Edition" that includes the games listed above as well as some physical memorabilia, including cassette tapes with either the original MIDI soundtracks or IDKFA versions (an updated recording) and trading cards. This version is also available on PC (albeit via a Steam Key). The Big Box Edition retails for $99.99.
The main attraction, however, is the "Will It Run" Edition, which includes all of the above as well as a small Cacodemon figurine that can levitate over its base using magnets, a small handheld Cacodemon that can run Doom on a tiny screen, and a giant retail box that Limited Run Games claims can play Doom.
Looking at the photos, it's unclear if the box can actually play Doom as it appears to only have buttons for power and volume controls.
This edition of the games will be hard to get, though; Limited Run Games will only sell 666 copies, each for $666.66.
All editions mentioned here will go on sale this Friday (April 18, 2025) at 10 AM EST.
