Nintendo’s new $99.99 Sound Clock: Alarmo features iconic characters and scenes from games like Super Mario Odyssey. With sleep tracking, motion sensors, and customizable alarms, it's an exclusive item only for Switch Online members.

Following weeks of speculation about a potential new accessory to accompany the Nintendo Switch 2, the surprise reveal isn’t a gaming controller or VR headset, but an alarm clock. Nintendo has officially introduced the Sound Clock: Alarmo, a $99.99 device which is designed to bring Nintendo’s iconic characters into everyday life via a morning alarm.

Initial leaks had hinted at something unique, with early reports suggesting a device that would introduce new functionality to the Switch lineup. Instead, the Alarmo is something entirely different. It features a 2.8-inch LCD screen that displays animations from games like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The clock can also be customized by downloading extra scenes and sound effects from other Nintendo titles, such as Splatoon 3 and PikMin 4.

Despite its pretty playful design, Alarmo isn’t just another basic alarm clock with a digital display. It includes a motion sensor that allows users to snooze alarms with a simple hand wave. The alarm can be set to either a Steady Mode, which gets louder if ignored, or a Gentle Mode for a softer wake-up.

While the device taps heavily into nostalgia, it also packs modern features like USB-C power, sleep tracking, and as mentioned earlier, smart gesture control. However, with a $99.99 price tag and availability restricted to Nintendo Switch Online members, its appeal may be limited to dedicated Nintendo fans rather than the general public. It might end up being more of a collector's item than anything else, it seems.
