During the Nintendo Direct today, the gaming giant announced a handful of retro games from developer Rare that landed on the Switch Online service today. They include classics for the NES, SNES, and the Nintendo 64.

Today's Nintendo Direct had a lot of information packed in it, but retro gamers who are fond of a particular developer are cheering. Five retro Nintendo games from developer Rare are now available on the Switch Online service.

The five titles span Nintendo's older home consoles, including the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), and Nintendo 64 (N64). They are:

  • Snake Rattle 'N Roll (NES)
  • R.C. Pro-Am (NES)
  • Battletoads in Battlemaniacs (SNES)
  • Killer Instinct (SNES)
  • Blast Corps (N64)

Interestingly, Nintendo opted to bring the SNES version of Killer Instinct to the Switch Online service instead of Killer Instinct Gold for the N64, which is much more accurate to the original arcade version.

It should also be noted that four of these titles (and more from Rare) have been available on Xbox for some time. However, Battletoads in Battlemaniacs has been stuck on the SNES since its release in 1993; this release is the first time it's been available on any other platform (except for a Brazil-only release on the Master System in 1996).

These titles are available to play today via the Nintendo Switch Online service, although Blast Corps requires an upgrade to the Expansion Pack since it is on the N64.

You can check out gameplay for each of these titles in Nintendo's trailer below.
