EarFun unveils powerful $159 UBoom X portable speaker

EarFun has launched its 80W UBoom X portable Bluetooth speaker. The successor to the UBoom L has undergone major design changes. It now comes in a slightly bigger casing with a built-in handle and strap making it easy to carry around. The battery gets a significant boost, with its capacity increasing from 5,200mAh to 8,400mAh; it also supports 30W fast wired charging now. EarFun claims the speaker can deliver up to 30 hours of playback on a single charge.

The UBoom X boasts two 4" 30W drivers, two 20mm 10W silk dome tweeters, and two passive bass radiators, providing up to 80W of sound output. It features EarFun’s in-house JumboBass technology that offers stronger bass. Furthermore, you can pair up to 50 UBoom X speakers via the Party Connect mode for louder sound covering a larger area.

You can connect the speaker via Bluetooth 5.3 or the 3.5mm stereo port. The interesting thing is that the speaker also doubles as a power bank, allowing users to charge their smartphones. It has an integrated microphone, too meaning the user can answer calls directly without taking their smartphone out. In addition, the speaker has Apple Siri and Google voice assistant support.

The EarFun speaker has IP67 water and dust resistance, which means the device can easily withstand water splashes. Plus, EarFun also packs its proprietary waterproofing sweat shield technology into the UBoom X, adding an extra protection layer. Despite the 4.15kg (9.15lb) weight, EarFun claims that the speaker can easily float on the water. This is something we would not take as a fact until experiencing it first-hand.

You can tweak the sound as per your liking via EarFun’s Audio Companion app. Two spherical multi-color customizable LEDs' behaviour can be customized with the app, too.
