Nintendo Switch 2 motherboard leak reveals RAM capacity and ageing Nvidia SoC
With an imminent launch date arriving soon, Nintendo Switch 2 leaks have been showing up by the dozen. Now, we get to see its motherboard that reveals some juicy specifications of the console. For starters, we see an Nvidia chip at its heart. While its markings have been obfuscated, the visible part (SNW8VF), confirms it is manufactured on Samsung Foundry's 8 nm node; the same as Nvidia Ampere.
Next to it, we can see soldered memory from SK Hynix (codenamed H58GE6AK8BX104N). This corresponds to 6 GB LPDDR5 models, and there are two of them for 12 GB total, three times more than the amount found on a regular Nintendo Switch. We also get to see two USB-C ports and the cartridge slot, but no micro SD card slot for some reason. If that is indeed the case, a storage expansion is likely on the cards for the Nintendo Switch 2.
While an Ampere chip with 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM should be able to pull off 4K 30 FPS, it will require the assistance of AI-powered chicanery. Then again, Nintendo has clearly bowed out of the high-end console rat race and repeatedly stated the Switch 2 will be more of a side grade than a real upgrade. If an older rumour is true, we should know for certain on January 8.
