Nearly a year back, My Arcade showed off a retro gaming handheld that was developed in collaboration with Atari SA. Called Atari Gamestation Go, the device now has a new teaser video, which gives a closer look at it. As revealed earlier, it comes with an interesting combination of controls.
While it has the standard set of controls found in other gaming handhelds (Legion Go curr. $549 on Amazon), there are some interesting additions. For example, the Atari Gamestation Go has a numeric keypad and a trackball. These are likely there for the games that require more than the ABXY buttons and the analog stick.
Of course, there was a report about the gaming handheld that suggested that only the buttons that are required to play a particular game will be lit during playtime. However, given that there's a versatile set of controls on the Gamestation Go, the device is more likely to be able to play more than the classic Atari games.
My Arcade hasn't shed light on the specs of the gaming handheld yet, but the previously released Gamestation Pro has over 200 built-in games. We may see something similar being offered with the Gamestation Go. The video also shows that the gaming handheld has a microSD card reader, which should let users easily expand the game library.
Besides the microSD card slot, there appears to be a decent selection of ports, including a HDMI, a headphone jack, and two USB-C ports. More details about the gaming handheld should be revealed at the CES 2025 event.
