HMD (Human Mobile Devices) has launched its latest entry-level smartphone, the HMD Key. While the Key is not nearly as impressive as the recently unveiled HMD Crest, Crest Max, and HMD Skyline (currently $403 on Amazon), it is designed for a budget-focused audience. Despite being a low-end smartphone, HMD packs a decent set of features into the Key.
The HMD Key is powered by a Unisoc 9832E processor paired with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, which is further expandable up to 128 GB via microSD card. The smartphone also comes with RAM expansion that adds 2 GB of virtual memory. It runs Android 14 GO out of the box, and the company promises two years of quarterly security updates for the smartphone. Sadly, it won’t receive any major Android upgrades.
Next up, it has an 8 MP rear-facing camera and a 5 MP selfie snapper. The HMD Key relies on a 4,000 mAh battery that supports 10 W wired charging and has a 6.52-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 576, a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and a peak brightness of 460 nits. Other features include a single speaker, Bluetooth 4.2, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
It does have an IP52 splash and dust resistance rating and comes in a choice of Midnight Black or Icy Blue finishes. Speaking about dimensions, the smartphone measures 166.4 x 76.9 x 8.95 mm (HWD) (6.55 x 3.02 x 0.35 inches) and weighs 185.4 grams (0.40 lbs).
The HMD Key is now available in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand via HMD’s official website for £59 (~$73/$71) for the 2GB + 32GB model. Head to the official product page for more information.
