HMD Fusion: New affordable modular Android smartphone goes official in India with Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset
HMD Global has launched its latest affordable smartphone, the HMD Fusion, in India. The highlight of the smartphone is the customizable modular design. The Fusion’s modular design allows users to swap out a variety of functional cases, which HMD called smart outfits. The company offers a total of three smart outfits, including a casual outfit with a minimalist design, a flashy outfit with a customizable RGB LED flash ring, and a gaming outfit with added physical buttons. All these outfits attach to the smartphone via a six-pin interface.
Aside from the design, HMD packs decent features into its budget-focused smartphone. The HMD Fusion has a 6.56-inch HD+ display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a 600 nits peak brightness. The brand uses its HID screen for the Fusion smartphone. As far as cameras are concerned, the smartphone features a dual rear camera array consisting of a 108 MP primary camera and a 2 MP depth sensor. There’s a 50 MP selfie shooter on the front for selfies and video chats.
The 5G-enabled smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor paired with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage, which is further expandable via microSD card up to 1 TB. It runs on Android 14 out of the box, and the company is promising 2 major OS updates (Android 15, 16) and 3 years (2 years monthly + 1 year quarterly) of security updates.
It packs a 5,000 mAh battery with 33W wired charging support. Other features include an IP54 water- and dust-resistance rating, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, NFC, and Qualcomm aptX adaptive audio support.
The HMD Fusion is priced at INR 17,999 ($213) and comes in a single black color option. The company is also offering the HMD flashy outfit and a gaming outfit worth Rs 5,999 ($71) as complimentary. The smartphone will be available via HMD’s official website and Amazon India starting from 29th November.
