HMD Crest and HMD Crest Max announced as India's newest budget-focussed smartphones
HMD has launched two new smartphones in India: HMD Crest and HMD Crest Max. While they're not nearly as impressive as the recently unveiled HMD Skyline, both phones cater to a budget-focussed audience. For the most part, they sport identical specs, except for the camera, which we'll discuss in a bit.
The HMD Crest and HMD Crest Max both come with a UNISOC T760 SoC that was unveiled a few days ago. It is a 6 nm SoC with 4 Cortex-A75 (2.2 GHz) and 4 Cortex-A55 (clocks unknown) CPUs, an Arm Mali G57 GPU and an unspecified 5G modem. Memory and storage standards are restricted to eMMC and LPDDR4X 2,133 MT/s. Both phones come with a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 33 Watt fast charging and is supposedly good for 800 charge/discharge cycles.
Next up, the HMD Crest Max packs 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, along with a 64 MP primary camera sensor, 5 MP ultra-wide-angle lens and 2 MP macro lens. On the other hand, the HMD Crest has to make do with a 50 MP, 2 MP camera layout, 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. Both phones come with "RAM expansion" that adds 8 GB of (much slower) virtual memory. Lastly, both phones feature a 50 MP selfie snapper.
Interestingly, HMD has managed to include a 6.67-inch FHD+ 120 Hz OLED panel in both phones. It probably won't be the best you've seen, but it's impressive nonetheless. You can buy the HMD Crest and HMD Crest Max via Amazon India during the Amazon Great Freedom Festival sale, which usually kicks off around August 15.
The HMD Crest costs ₹14,499 ($173) and the HMD Crest Max will set you back by ₹16,499 ($196). There appears to be just one memory/storage configuration for both models.
