Motorola has now expanded the Edge 50 series with the Edge 50 5G, whose name suggests that it is an entry-level option after the Edge 50 Fusion, Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Ultra. Contrary to pre-release rumours, the Edge 50 5G does not rely upon a MediaTek Dimensity 7300, a version of which powers the Razr 50 (curr. $699.99 on Amazon). Instead, Motorola has opted for the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 that Qualcomm announced over two years ago.
Incidentally, while the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 trails the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 by a few percent in our benchmarks, its Adreno 644 GPU has proven to be significantly more powerful than the Adreno 710 inside the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. Thus, the Edge 50 5G could outperform the Edge 50 Fusion in some tasks. Additionally, the inclusion of a 1.5K (1220 x 2,712 pixel) and 6.67-inch pOLED curved display makes the Edge 50 5G resemble the Edge 50 Pro, as does the rest of its design.
Moreover, the Edge 50 5G features a Sony LYT-700C sensor as its primary camera, which outputs at 50 MP with a 1/1.56-inch optical format. On top of that, Motorola has included 32 MP front-facing, 10 MP telephoto and 13 MP ultra-wide-angle cameras, the latter of which supports macro functionality. Furthermore, the Edge 50 5G integrates a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 15 W wireless and 68 W wired charging.
The Edge 50 5G will be officially available on August 1 with three Android OS updates and four years of Android security patches. Unfortunately, the company has not confirmed a release date for other markets yet. Please see Flipkart's Edge 50 5G product listing for more listings.
